Our almost 10 months old White Swiss Shepherd Jane has been car sick from the beginning. Drooling and vomiting and basically being lethargic were her signs. And so I started to train her that car rides are okay and can even be fun. With absolutely the best treats ever (like sime raw ground chicken) in my pocket we first had a couple of days sniffing and having a treat around the car, then around the car with the doors open, then in the car without turning on the engine, and with turning on the engine. After done every step for a couple of days en even een week, we started to drive back and forth on the drive way, slowly driving a little more every day. When this seems to go ok, we went in to town. Slowly increasing distance. And as long as Jane sits she can have treat. Which she sometimes didn’t want because she didn’t feel relaxed enough. And these days we drive around town as well, with various speeds 35, 45 and even 60. It has taken a while before she got this far, but she is getting there. My goal is for her to visit her mom together with her dad Mojo this Fall. It’s a 2.5 hour drive so I want her to really be ok with car rides.
