Okay, I want to show you my 'morning with the dog walk' gear because it has cost me some time to figure out how to walk with 4 dogs through the woods, with only small paths to walk on. When we lived in The Netherlands, and I had a well paying job I was able to buy al lot of stuff for the dogs.
And I did, because I was trying to see what worked best given the situation. So they needed gear for a 'normal' walk in the city (harness was most safe) or on the beach or in the park. Or when running or tracking they needed a harness that gave them enough space to move freely. And for me, when running it was easier to have my hands free, so I bought a running belt. And now I am happy I have all this stuff. Because a couple of months ago I broke my finger because Mijne saw or smelled something and he pulls on the leash with so much force. And so now I have my belt on with the three big dogs attached, Mijne, Mojo and Jessie. And Jane's leash I hold in my hands. And it works absolute great especially when we have to walk over the small paths .

The most important about my dogs is their health. That's why I only breed with dogs that are health tested and free of genetic abnormalities.
This is also the reason that I have registered our 8 months old WSS Jane with the Dog Aging Project. Jane will be followed for 10 years and I can summit her to a divers of sub projects if I feel she is up for it. Most of the tests are surveys for me to fill, but also her DNA is tested thoroughly. Another thing she needs to do is walk the stairs up and down, on and off leash. Luckily I learned her this already, although I am not a fan of doing this to often with her, because she is still growing and it may have a bad effect on her elbows or hips. I hope that with Jane being part of this project we help the human world to understand more and more about the canine world. |
