In The Netherlands we have a saying 'soms zit het mee, soms zit het tegen, en nu zit het even tegen' which basically says that "A life without rain is like the sun without shade" and "You have to get through the rain if you're ever going to see a rainbow.” And that's where I am now.
I decided to go to the vet last Friday and have Jessie xrayed, because other then signs of being pregnant nothing happend. And that was because Jessie turns out not to be pregnant. You can imagine how devestated this news is for me, because you work to this point for so long, you do all the things right and all the right things, and then this happens. It feels like a big loss, even if it is something that wasn't there in the first place. Also because now I had to dissapoint my puppy buyers on the waiting list, who have been nothing but supportive by the way, but they feel dissapointed none the less. I now take the time to recover and analyse where it went wrong so next time, Jessie will have puppies. And there is some room for approval, I think. And I also remind myself of all that I have accomplished in life so far and that I am really a lucky woman. Having both my parents still around, both in pretty good shape for oldies in their eighties. For having my siblings alive and kicking, having a fantastic husband who has given me a lot of huggs lately to comfort me and for having four beautiful and loyal White Swiss Shepherds, who are always by my side and who are trying to cheer me up from time to time. For having friends like Mojo's breeder, who has done nothing then support me and who will be here in a couple of weeks. And last but not least, I truly have some amazing puppy buyers who have been at my side all the way. So thank you for that. And thank you for reading this complete story. I normally do not have blogs this long. We still don’t know for 100% if Jessie is having puppies, we are almost ready for them to come though.
Martijn made a whelping box and today I put some blankets in because Jessie is nesting. She can’t be left alone outside anymore because everytime I ‘loose’ her being busy crawling under one of our out buildings. She has had nesting tendencies before after a heat, so this is for me not right away a sign she’s getting into labor. It’s more a sign that this is the ninth week after her ovulation. I hope of course that there will be puppies and if so they sure will be born this week. Just have to wait and see. We got 8 laying hens this week. They have their own chicken coop & fenced in space. Because this space is adjacent to the dog pen, the dogs have plenty of time to watch these new ‘creatures’. Especially Jane has a hard time to contain her curiosity:-)
It’s often said that female dogs within the same pack will sinc their heat cycle. Well, not here they don’t. So now Jane is in heat and tonight we are moving to the B&B. We are Jane, Jessie and me. I am
not all to sad about it though, because the Kingsize bed sleeps great! In the meanwhile Jessie is still showing signs of pregnancy. |
