Jessie copes with some female problems. After her first heat, which I found pretty severe, she had some discharge coming from her vulva. So on a Saturday we drove all the way to an emergency clinic in Durham. According to the the vet there she had vaginitis and he gave her a 10 antibiotic. It went better but wasn't over yet. So I took her to the vet her in C. Again a 10 day antibiotic but now a broader one. It helped but still wasn't over. All this time I was getting more and more worried. Because it could have something to do with her uterus and in the worst case scenario Jessie could have an uterus infection that only could be cured by removing her uterus.
So I got a referral to the Animal State hospital in Raleigh NC. An almost 1.5 hour drive. But it was well worth it. They made a echo and saw that nothing was wrong with her uterus. Jessie seemed to have puppy vaginitis which is not uncommon after a first heat and she should be fine after her next heat. She will grow out of it. To make sure that it wasn't Brucellosis that is not uncommon in East-Europe, she was tested for that as well. Happy that the result was negative. On advice of the vet we give her probiotics with her food because that will help restore her balance. I hope that Jessie won't have much of these 'female problems' again and that we can enjoy a happy and healthy life with her.
